Undergraduate Study
A four-year undergraduate program typically includes two years of general education followed by two years of major-specific study, with flexibility in choosing a field of study.

Expenses - Scholarships

Study Abroad Costs
The cost of studying in the United States varies by level of study, institution, and lifestyle, with average total expenses ranging from approximately USD 30,000–100,000 per year (equivalent to VND 790 million–2.63 billion), including tuition and living expenses. Tuition depends on the program, level of study, location, ranking, and field of study, while living expenses vary according to individual needs.
Scholarships
International students can access various scholarships offered directly by U.S. institutions, including merit-based scholarships, athletic scholarships, department or research-fund scholarships, and need-based financial aid. Reference scholarship amounts: Undergraduate: USD 4,000–35,000 per year; Graduate: up to 100% of tuition, with additional stipends depending on the program.
Employment
International students in the United States may work part-time on campus in roles such as teaching assistants, office assistants, library assistants, or research positions (approximately USD 12–16 per hour). To legally work off campus, students need to qualify for and participate in programs such as OPT (Optional Practical Training) or CPT (Curricular Practical Training).

U.S. Study Abroad Requirements

Most programs in the United States require an IELTS score of 5.0–6.5 or a TOEFL score of 61–79, depending on the level of study. Students who do not yet meet the requirements may take a preparatory English course in the United States, but preparing in Vietnam is recommended to improve their chances of obtaining a visa. Vera Academy provides intensive test-preparation courses to help you meet admission requirements and feel confident during your visa interview.

To study in the United States, students should have an academic record of at least above average (GPA >= 6.5). However, to be competitive for top universities, a GPA of 7.5–8.0 along with standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT) can be a key factor.

International students must demonstrate that their family has sufficient financial resources to cover the first academic year and subsequent years. The account balance should ideally be at least 1.5 times higher than the tuition and living expenses stated on the I-20.

Student Visa

Visa application documents include: the U.S. nonimmigrant visa application form (Form DS-160), passport, 5x5 cm photo, visa application fee receipt, an I-20 form confirmed by the U.S. institution, SEVIS fee receipt, and academic and financial documents. Applicants must demonstrate ties to Vietnam and their intention to return after completing their studies.

  • Apply for admission and receive the I-20
  • Pay the SEVIS fee
  • Complete Form DS-160
  • Pay the visa application fee
  • Schedule an interview
